Over 6 million people in the UK suffer from eczema
Eczema is a skin disorder that is characterized by itching, scaling and thickening of the skin. The cause is unknown and it can affect any part of the body but is usually located on the face, elbows, knees, and arms. The condition may be short-lived (acute) or long term (chronic), and is usually treated with topical anti-inflammatory medications available over the counter or by prescription. A type of eczema that is often made worse by allergen exposure is termed "atopic dermatitis."
What you can do?
Several factors are known to trigger or aggravate eczema, and should be avoided. Some of these factors are weather conditions as well as air-borne allergens, certain foods, skin irritants, and stress.
Minimise airborne triggers. House dust, house dust mites, moulds, pollen, and animal hair are all known to aggravate eczema. A reduction in house dust mites has been shown to reduce the severity of eczema. To minimise the accumulation of mites, pollen and pet hair and to calm eczema try the following:
Keep the bedroom temperature cool,
Keep your house as dust free as much as possible,
Fluffy toys need to be washed and shaken outdoors regularly,
Minimise carpets,
Wash bedding frequently.
Eliminate common food triggers. Foods are known as a common trigger of eczema, the highest reactions are to the following foods:
Milk
Eggs
Wheat
Peanuts
Soybeans
Oranges
Seafood
Reduce daily chemical exposure. Contact with soaps, detergents, shampoos, conditioners, perfume, shaving creams as well as make-up should be kept to a minimum. Make-up should not be applied to weeping lesions. Perfume free cosmetics are advised and trial applications of cosmetics to small areas of normal skin before applying on to the face. Bathing is recommended in luke warm water. Hot water, hard water, salt water and chlorinated water should be avoided. Bubble baths should not be used. Pat dry and do not rub.
Avoid over heating. Avoidance of conditions that cause perspiration is helpful to reduce the discomfort of eczema. Exercise should be performed in cool well-ventilated areas. Multiple short sessions are easier on the skin. Also the clothes you wear should allow your skin to breathe.
Wear soft cotton clothes,
Avoid wool or polyester clothes,
Thoroughly rinse clothes,
Avoid using fabric softeners
Avoid using soaps,
Avoid perfume and products containing perfume.
Reduce your stress Anxiety and emotional tension should be kept to a minimum. Techniques to reduce stress and the avoidance of anxiety-provoking situations are beneficial. Stress does not cause eczema but it can result in a flare up.
Is your body trying to tell you something?
Eczema indicates an extreme sensitivity to circumstances and to the emotions around us. It limits our physical contact with others. Ask your self: Are there areas of contact and communication that irritate you? Have you a fear of intimacy? Are you locking yourself inside with a fear of coming out? Is there a reason you are trying to isolate your self? Are you being overly sensitive to someone or a situation?

Health Kinesiology
Health Kinesiology (HK) is a holistic system of natural health care which uses muscle testing to communicate directly with the body’s own inner wisdom. Through the use of focussed questioning, the HK practitioner can identify the triggers that cause the eczema and by a series of gentle yet powerful energy-balancing techniques can boost the body’s resistance to these triggers.
The number of treatments required will vary from person to person. The HK practitioner will be able to prioritise the work needed and determine the length of time to wait between each treatment. This allows the body time to process the energy corrections at its own pace, to avoid placing any extra strain on the body.
