awareness - your key to health

The alarm goes off. You wearily turn over to silence it and drag yourself out of bed to begin another day.

Your first stop is the bathroom, you clean your teeth to freshen your mouth and then into the shower for a wash. You soap your body, wash your hair and cleanse your face. Once dried you apply your deodorant and maybe some perfume.

After you have dressed, you go downstairs to put the kettle on; you couldn’t possibly face the day without your first cup of coffee to get you going. Perhaps this morning you might have some cereal or eat some toast in the car as you’re running late again, or perhaps nothing at all, promising yourself that tomorrow will be different.

Phew, you’ve made it to work, just enough time for another cup of coffee. By mid morning you’re starting to feel hungry, so perhaps you’ll have a chocolate bar or Danish with a cup of coffee, just to see you through until lunchtime.

Lunch is a sandwich in front of the computer, whilst you continue to work. By the afternoon another sugar fix as your energy starts to drop. Soon, another day has passed and you’re on your way home wondering what to have for tea. You stop at the shops to buy something quick and easy to eat before you slump in front of the TV for the night, exhausted after another day at the office.

Does any of this sound familiar to you?

Well let’s look at this again…

The alarm goes off and you head for the bathroom for your first daily dose of toxic chemicals. Your toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, anti-perspirants and creams all containing and exposing you to a cocktail of toxic man-made chemicals that end up in our bodies. These same chemicals are linked to cancers, allergies and immune system deficiencies.

Eating on the run means that you are more likely to gulp your food down, putting unnecessary strain on your digestive system and making it harder for your body to assimilate the nutrients that it requires. This also leads to bloating and other digestive complaints.

Drinking excess coffee leads to anxiety, mineral depletion, indigestion, low energy levels and mood swings, not to mention that it also dehydrates your body.

Talking of dehydration, how much water have you drunk today? Your tea and coffee does not count! The average person should aim to be drinking 2 litres of water a day just to replace the water that the body uses to keep us alive. If you are not drinking sufficient water you will become increasingly dehydrated leading to or exacerbating conditions of ill health.

We all know that the Danish and chocolate fixes lead to extra weight gain, but did you know that by eating them it gives you a temporary high and then your blood sugar level drops right back down leaving you feeling more lethargic than before. So guess what? You crave more sugar and so the cycle continues.

The convenience foods seem the easy option for something quick for tea. Next time you fancy something in a packet, look at the ingredients and you will see that they are full of fats, sugars, salt and flavourings – not so convenient and definitely lacking in the nutrients that your body requires.

By not taking any daily exercise means that your lymphatic drainage system cannot do its work removing toxins from your body. As unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart to pump the blood around your body, the lymphatic system relies upon the movement of the muscles to move the lymph around your body. The lymph contains waste products and when it is not removed from your system it becomes congested and you become achy with toxins.

But you did not know any of this, how could you? No one has ever told you before and you have never thought to question these things. You just do as you have always done, what your friends do, in fact probably just as your parents taught you.

You never question your actions as your habits and routines are part of your daily life.

What if you knew that just from your daily toiletries you could absorb around 2 kilos of chemicals a year into your body, or that by drinking less than 2 litres of water a day can lead to many forms of ill health.

Would that be enough for you to question your habits?

Or perhaps if I told you that by making a few simple changes to your lifestyle would make you feel more healthy, vibrant and energetic, making your skin glow with health, would you be interested then?

Well now is the time to regain the health that you desire as we go back to basics and you look at the choices that you make on a daily basis and see where we can make the changes to improve your health.

These articles are designed to give you an overview of how your body works and how the choices that you make affect it. As it is just that – your choice, you can choose to follow the advice in the following articles or not. But do so with awareness and make you choice count.
